The Troy Trojans (14-7, 2-1) opened up Sun Belt Conference play this weekend with a series win over the Louisiana Monroe Ragin’ Cajuns (12-8, 1-2) on the road.

The Trojans owned game one, picking up a resounding 7-1 win on March 15. Opelika native Brooks Bryan led Troy at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and a run, while Tremayne Cobb Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run. Kole Myers scored two runs. Luke Lyon picked up his third win on the mound, striking out a pair of batters and giving up seven hits and no earned runs in seven innings pitched.

ULM tied the series by winning game two on March 16 by a score of 8-4. Aidan Gilroy led Troy, going 2-for-2 with two runs, while Brooks hit a home run. Clete Hartzog took the loss on the mound, striking out three batters and giving up four hits and four earned runs in three innings. Jay Dill struck out three batters and gave up four hits and one earned run in three and 1/3 innings pitched.

Troy took the series later in the day by winning game three by a score of 6-4. Kyle Mock went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, while Cobb went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. Ryan Pettys got the win on the mound, striking out a batter and giving up one hit and no runs in two innings pitched. Noah Manning earned his second save of the season, striking out one batter and giving up one hit and no runs in three innings pitched. Grayson Stewart also pitched four innings and fanned three batters along with giving up three hits and four earned runs.

“You win a series, and you have to take that and safely travel back to Troy tomorrow morning. We did a really good job, especially in the second game,” Troy Coach Skylar Meade said. “I think the bullpen was fantastic with what Ryan did for a couple of innings and then ‘The Ringer’ closing it out. We had really clean defense in the final eight innings of the game. I’m happy we won the series and get to recuperate tomorrow and get our bodies and minds right before we hit the road for UAB.
“We have some old guys who’ve been through it. You must be able to flush out a bad game and respond quickly. You won’t be very good at this game if you can’t do that. We answered the bell collectively, so we won game two. Tre was really good in the second game and made adjustments between games. The part that excites me more than the base hits is the base running. We created more opportunities and more pressure on them. We earned everything we got.”

Troy is on the road against UAB on March 19.
