The Pike County Salvation Army’s advisory board met Wednesday to discuss plans for the organization’s annual Empty Bowls Luncheon.

The luncheon will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on April 5, at the fellowship hall of Bush Baptist Church in Troy.

Each year, those who participate in the annual fundraiser make it possible for the local Salvation Army to do more for neighbors in need.

Donna Kidd, Pike County Salvation Army Service Center manager, said Pike County has always been very supportive of the Empty Bowls Luncheon.

“And, we are counting on, depending on, community-wide support to make this year’s event even more successful than in years past,” Kidd said. “Even though food prices are higher than they were last year, local support makes a positive difference in the good Empty Bowls can do here at home.”

Local support comes from the businesses, community service groups, attendance at the luncheon and donations of bowls by local potters.

Kidd said there is a need for soups for the kettles, for breads, desserts, and, as always, volunteers to keep the soup kitchen going.

“Our hope is to have strong community-wide support for Empty Bowls, 2024,” Kidd said. “Tickets for the dine-in/take-out lunch are $20. As in the past, each person who comes to the Empty Bows Luncheon will be able to choose an empty bowl to take home as a reminder of hunger here at home and throughout the world.”
