Area Baseball: Patriots, Trojans earn dominant wins

The Pike Lib Patriots (9-0) remained undefeated on Wednesday with a 17-1 win over the Goshen Eagles as area play began.

Jack Baggett led PLAS at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Cole Garrott also had three RBIs. Tyler Whatley, Kade Brookins, Tucker Vaughn and Pruitt Vaughan each scored two runs. Luke Barron pitched all five innings and mowed down 11 batters, while giving up two hits and one earned run.

For Goshen, Tyler McLendon earned a triple and scored the lone Eagle run on the day. Layton Burgans and Mase Brooks each struck out two batters for the Eagles. Burgans gave up no hits or runs in one inning pitched, while Brooks gave up three hits and one earned run in two innings on the mound.

Also on Wednesday, the Charles Henderson Trojans (6-6) dominated the J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs by a score of 11-1 to win their fourth straight victory.

Chase Vaznaian had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Cole Pugh went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Parker Adams went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double and a run. Trenton Bryan struck out four batters and gave up five hits and one earned run in four innings on the mound for the Trojans, while Bradley Prestwood struck out two batters and gave up one hit and no earned runs in two innings pitched.

The Zion Chapel Rebels (5-4) bested the New Brockton Gamecocks by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. Wes Braisted went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rebels with a run, while Joseph LeGear went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Austin Jordan got the win on the mound, striking out three batters along with giving up five hits and two earned runs in six and 2/3 innings pitched.
