Both the Troy University men’s and women’s basketball teams had players earn All-Sun Belt honors this week.

For the men, Christyon Eugene was named First-Team All-Sun Belt, while Myles Rigsby earned Freshman of the Year honors and Tayton Conerway took Sixth Man of the Year.

Eugene captured All-Sun Belt honors for the second time in his Troy career as he finished the regular season averaging 15.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

“Christyon has been so crucial to our team’s success ever since he joined the program three years ago,” Head coach Scott Cross said. “His ability to score at all three levels while also making everyone around him better has been a joy to watch. He is so deserving of this recognition, and we wouldn’t be here without him and his leadership each and every day.”

In his freshman season, Rigsby averaged 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Conerway averaged 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

“Myles is a perfect representation for everything Troy Basketball is,” Cross said. “He is tough, physical and makes plays everywhere on the court. In addition to his ability to shoot the ball well from anywhere on the floor, he is an elite rim finisher and one of the most difficult players in the “Tayton is a sixth starter for us and constantly changes the game when on the court,” Cross said. “He is exactly what it means to be a street dog and we’re so thankful that he is part of our team. He makes a difference on the offensive and defensive ends of the court every single night and has been a key reason for our success this year.”

A total of three Troy women also earned All-Sun Belt honors. Tai’Sheka Porchia earned First-Team honors, while Ja’Mia Hollings captured Second-Team honors and Makayia Hallmon took Third-Team honors.

Porchia finished the regular season averaging 15.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

Hollings is the only Sun Belt player to average a double-double in conference games this season, she averaged 14.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game in 29 total games. Meanwhile, Hallmon averaged 15.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

“In a fourteen-team conference, and only fifteen all-conference positions available, it is quite a feat to have three players selected from a single team,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “I’m really proud of Tai, Stix, and Mae Mae. I’m thankful that their hard work and determination are honored by being selected to the Sun Belt All-Conference Team.”

Both the men and women earned double byes in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournaments, which begin this week.
