Troy drops road series to Northwestern State

The Troy Trojans lost a road series to Northwestern State this weekend, losing 2-of-3 contests to the Demons.

On March, Troy fell 5-3 to Northwestern State. Kole Myers led Tory at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Mikey Bello went 2-for-4 with a double. Ethan Kavanagh, Tremayne Cobb Jr. and Blake Sutton each scored one run.

Grayson Stewart pitched six innings and mowed down nine batters, while giving up six hits and four earned runs. Brady Fuller also struck out three batters and gave up one hit and no earned runs in two innings on the mound.

Northwestern State secured the series win by defeating Troy 6-3 on Saturday. Will Butcher hit a homer for the Trojans, while Blake Sutton earned a double. Butcher, Brooks Bryan and Kyle Mock each scored one run.

A total of six Trojan pitchers took the mound in game two. Connor Burt struck out five batters and gave up one hit and no earned runs in two innings pitched, while Logan Ross struck out four batters and gave up four hits and two earned runs in four innings.

Troy bounced back on Sunday to pick up a dominant 7-0 win over Northwestern State. Peyton Watts led Troy at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a homer, one RBI and two runs, while Bryan also hit a home run. Kavanagh went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Sutton went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Clete Hartzog got his third win on the mound this season with six strikeouts, while giving up four hits and no runs in seven and 1/3 innings of work. Luke Lyon also struck out a pair of batters and gave up no hits or runs in his one and 2/3 innings pitched.

Troy heads to Tuscaloosa this Wednesday, March 6, for a matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide at 4 p.m. in a game that will stream on SEC Network+.
