A new restaurant in Downtown Troy is getting set to open this month as Moe’s Original Bar-B-Que is planning a March 18 grand opening.

Moe’s is owned and operated by partners Hill Lubin and Richard Boyles, who also have a Montgomery Moe’s location.

“It’s a college town and we felt like Troy would be a good fit for us,” Boyles said of the decision to open a location in Troy. “Historically, these types of stores do really well in college towns.”

Boyles said that the renovation of the space on 115 W. Church Street in Troy, adjacent to the Pike County Courthouse, is coming along nicely for the planned March 18 grand opening.

“It’s coming along good,” Boyles emphasized. “We should be on track to have the grand opening on March 18.”

Boyles and Lubin have added a 1,800 square foot deck to the back of the soon-to-be restaurant, which will offer outside dining. Boyles said that there would also be two windows connected to the outside where patrons can order beers or other drinks. Boyles also said that Moe’s will offer Door Dash online ordering and will later add pickup online ordering down the line.

While BBQ is Moe’s specialty, the restaurant will offer much more for Troy residents.

“The pulled pork is a big hit and our smoked wings are a really big hit, but if you don’t want BBQ we also have shrimp from the Gulf and catfish and ribs,” Boyles continued. “Our smoked turkey and smoked chicken are also a hit. We also have special sides, we’ll have a different special side every day, and we’ll also have special meats throughout the week like brisket or a special sandwich or something like that.”

Boyles said that they are concentrated on opening the Troy store but hopes for further expansion in the future.

“It would be nice to expand more,” he said. “We do have some other stores we would like to do down the road but it’s hard enough to open one, so we’re concentrating on opening this Troy location right now. Once we’re up and running here – and have some time under our belt here – maybe we can start thinking about expanding further in the future.”
