Goshen ag academy plant sale March 25-29

The Pike County Schools Agriscience Academy at Goshen High School will host its annual on-campus plant sale Monday, March 25 through Friday, March 29 from 7:45 a.m. and until 3:30 p.m.

“The plants are expected to go fast,” said Cody Eiland, Agriscience instructor. “We will be open for business as long as we have plants or until the sale ends on March 31.”

Terracotta pots: Citronella, $20; Mixed Deck Planters, $20; 3 Gallon: Pots of Macho Ferns, $20; Sword Ferns, $20 and Citronella, $20.

Hanging Baskets of Boston Ferns, $20; Spider Plants, $20; Wax Begonias, $20; Geraniums, $20; and Flowering Baskets, $20.

1 Gallon Pots of Coleus, Lantanas and Salvia are priced at $10.

4 Inch Pots of Impatiens are priced at $4.

Six Packs of Vincas, Petunias and vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, zucchini and others are priced at $4. 

Christian Stanley, Agriscience instructor, said the plants were grown by the Pike County Schools Agriscience Academy and Goshen Agriculture Department students who are taking dual enrollment and high school plant science classes.

“The students grew the plants from seeds, plugs, or cuttings,” Stanley said.  “They have been responsible for all stages of growth with each plant in the greenhouse setting.” 

Stanley said through General Horticulture, Vegetable and Orchard Crops, Fundamentals of Agriculture, and Middle School Agriculture classes, the students have learned about growing media, the different forms of propagation, plant nutrition, plant structure and function, and more.
