Area Baseball: CHHS beats Houston Academy

The Charles Henderson Trojans picked up a 5-3 win over the Houston Academy Raiders on March 2.

CHHS was tied 3-3 with Houston Academy going into the fifth inning when Charles Henderson’s Clay Jonhsnon scored on a wild pitch to go up 4-3 followed by Wes Templin driving Chase Vaznaian home with a sacrifice fly to give the Trojans the 5-3 lead. CHHS held off the Raiders for the remainder of the game to hold on for the win.

Cole Pugh led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Owen Pugh also went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Vaznaian scored two runs, while Wilson Jones, Clay Johnson and Cooper Johnson scored one run each.
Parker Adams pitched five innings and struck out a pair of batters, while giving up eight hits and three earned runs. Cole Pugh gave up one hit and no runs in two innings on the mound.

On March 2, the Zion Chapel Rebels lost a pair of games to the New Brockton Games and Carroll Eagles. In game one, ZCHS lost 5-4 to New Brockton when the Gamecocks scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. Zion Chapel was led at the plate by Brodie Stinson, who went 2-for-3 with a run, while John Foster Hamm went 2-for-3. Hamm pitched four innings and fanned three batters along with giving up three hits and no earned runs.

In game two, Zion Chapel lost by a score of 12-4 to Carroll. Austin Jordan went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Stinson went 2-for-4 with a run. Hamm also went 2-for-4. Wes Braisted struck out six batters in four innings on the mound, while giving up three hits and one earned run.

The Ariton Purple Cats picked up a pair of wins on March 1 over both Carroll and Geneva. In game one, the Cats beat Carroll 4-3 when Lawson Leger bunted to drive Caden Collier home for the walk-off win.

Collier went 2-for-3 att he plate wtih an RBI and a run, while Aven Cook went 2-for-3 with a run and Mylers Tyler went 2-for-3 with a run. Easton Kilpatrick struck out a pair of batters with four hits and two earned runs giving up on four innings pitched. Jessie Pelham struck out five batters and gave up no hits or runs in three innings on the mound.

In game two, Ariton dominated Geneva by a score of 10-1. Tyler went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run, while Dalton Murphy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Leger, Kilpatrick and Cook scored two runs each. Austin Evans got the win on the mound with three strikeouts, while giving up three hits and one earned run in four innings pitched. Addison Senn struck out three batters and gave up one hit and no runs in two innings pitched.

On Feb. 29, the Goshen Eagles earned a 10-5 win over the Pike County Bulldogs. Cade Edwards went 3-for-3 at the plate for GHS with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs, while Tyler McLendon 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Tristen Drinkard also scored three runs. McLendon pitched four innings and fanned six batters, while giving up one hit and one earned run.

For Pike County, Britt Albritton went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Keldon Singleton scored two runs and had an RBI. Michael Gabel pitched four and 1/3 innings and struck out three batters, while giving up three hits and no earned runs. Omari Barrow fanned seven batters, while giving up one hit and no earned runs in two and 2/3 innings on the mound.
