Master storytellers headline festival

The Pike Piddlers Storytelling is set for Friday night at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge and at the Trojan Center Theater on the campus of Troy University on Saturday.

This year’s festival will feature highly acclaimed storytellers Donald Davis, the Dean of Storytelling; Michael Reno Harrell, Appalachian picker and grinner; Dolores Hydock, highly acclaimed story performer, and newcomer to the festival, but not to storytelling, the Rev. Robert Jones from Detroit who plays acoustic instruments, sings and tells stories that are tailor made for piddlin’ around.

Pre-show entertainment will be by The Lighthouse Ensemble, The Benton Brothers, Morgan and Wes Music and Shelia Jackson.

Anne Register, ticket chair for the weekend event, said the Friday night storytelling event at the We Piddle Around Theater is sold out.

However, tickets for the storytelling concerts at the Trojan Center Theater on Saturday are available and may be purchased by calling 334-403-3394 or at the Troy Messenger downtown Troy.

All four tellers will be at each of the three storytelling concerts at the Trojan Center Theater on Saturday.

Each concert will open with picking and singing by local groups prior to the storytellers taking center stage.

Times for the storytelling concerts at the Trojan Center Theater are 10 a.m.  ($10) 2 p.m. ($15) and 6:30 p.m. $10.
