Grantham’s 40 points leads Rebels past Patriots in Area Matchup

Class 2A’s No. 6-ranked Zion Chapel Rebels picked up a 82-61 win over the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots in a 2A, Area 4 matchup on Thursday.

The Rebels jumped out to a 22-14 lead in the first quarter and held on to a 40-29 lead at halftime. The Rebels started to pull away in the second half as the Patriots struggled to keep up with Zion Chapel’s fast-paced, high-powered offense. Zion Chapel led 62-45 going into the final period and outscored PLAS 20-16 in the fourth quarter, as well.

Zion Chapel star Slade Grantham scored 40 points in the win as Jacob Chestnut added 14 points, Hayden Speckert scored 12 points and Mason Stuart chipped in with nine points.

For Pike, Jackson Mitchell led the way with 16 points and Sawyer Keck scored 14 points, while Will Rice scored six points.

Meanwhile, the Lady Patriots picked up their second win of the season 26-16 over Zion Chapel. The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first quarter but Pike held ZCHS scoreless in the second quarter and cut the lead to 9-8 at halftime.

The second half was all Lady Patriots, though. Pike Lib outscored Zion Chapel 7-4 in the third quarter and 11-3 in the fourth to capture the 25-16 win. Mary Stephens led PLAS with 11 points in the win, while Hagen Sessions scored nine points for Zion Chapel.
