Troy lands Northern Illinois transfer Devin Lafayette

On Tuesday, former Northern Illinois player Devin Lafayette announced his intention to transfer to Troy.
Lafayette is a Brunswick, Ga., native, that played the “husky” position at Northern Illinois, which is a linebacker/safety hybrid the equivalent of Troy’s “spear” position. He will also play “spear” at Troy.
Lafayette played cornerback and safety in high school and was a first-team All-Area selection in both 2018 and 2019. As a senior he earned 75 tackles, 23 pass breakups, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick.
During his NIU career, Lafayette tallied 123 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two interceptions, five pass breakups and three forced fumbles. In 2023, he tallied 39 tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack and two forced fumbles. Lafayette will come to Troy with two years of eligibility left.
Additionally, on Wednesday former Coastal Carolina punter Evan Crenshaw announced he was transferring to Troy. Crenshaw averaged 41.5 yards-per-punt in 2023 with eight punts downed inside the 20. He also had six punts over 50 yards and none of his punters were blocked.
