Zion Chapel, Pike Lib pick up Thursday wins

Zion Chapel senior Slade Grantham scored 23 points in Class 2A No. 4-ranked Zion Chapel’s 59-48 win over the Goshen Eagles in a Class 2A, Area 4 matchup on Thursday.

Grantham knocked down all three of his three-point attempts as he notched his 1,000th career point in the win. Zion Chapel jumped out to a 15-11 lead in the first quarter and swelled that lead to 37-19 at halftime. The Eagles managed to outscore the Rebels 29-22 in the second half but it wasn’t enough.

Along with 23 points, Grantham tallied four rebounds, three assists and four steals for ZCHS, while Jacob Chestnut scored 19 points and Joseph LeGear tallied eight points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mason Stuart also grabbed seven rebounds, dished five assists and earned two steals with two points.

Jayden McNabb scored 11 points for Goshen, while Makayel McBryde and Jadarius Burney earned 10 points each for the Eagles.

The Pike Liberal Arts Partios also earned a 53-52 win over Class 3A No. 8-ranked Northside Methodist on Thursday. While Pike Lib led by as many as 20 points in the contest, Northside made a come back attempt late until Pike’s Sawyer Keck knocked down a layup to seal the win.
