Troy earns commitment from NC State defensive back

Troy landed another commitment from the transfer portal on Tuesday when North Carolina State defensive back Cecil Powell announced his intention to transfer to Troy.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Powell is a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native that earned All-County honors with 45 tackles, three tackles-for-loss and eight interceptions as a senior. He also 1,306 all-purpose yards as a senior and was a standout track star.

Powell played both cornerback and receiver as a freshman at NC State before settling in at cornerback as a sophomore. In 2020, he tallied 47 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and four pass breakups in five starts.

Injuries forced Powell to miss all of 2021 and 2022 but he played in 12 games this past season, registering five tackles. Powell will have two years of eligibility left at Troy.
