Area basketball teams pick up weekend wins

This weekend, Pike County, Charles Henderson, Pike Liberal Arts and Ariton all picked up wins.

The Charles Henderson boys started off the weekend with a 58-53 win over Highland Home as Jywon Boyd scored 22 points and Bray Jones added 19 points.

The boys followed that up with a 63-59 overtime loss at Keith High School. Cody Cross knocked down six three-pointers for the Trojans as he tallied a career-high 20 points, while Bradley Prestwood added 17 points.

The CHHS girls also earned a 47-44 overtime win over Keith after the Lady Trojans outscored the Bears 6-3 in overtime. Takeiya Brockton led CHHS with 22 points, while Madison Ousley added 10 points. The Lady Trojans defeated Highland Home, as well. Ousley knocked down a three-pointer with just three seconds left to secure the win. Ousley led CHHS with nine points in the win.

The Pike County girls picked up a 39-31 area win over Opp after Jakayla Pierson scored nine points. Both Shaytay Kirkpatrick and KK Griffin added seven points each, JoJo Thomas scored six points and Kynthia Jackson scored five points.

The Pike County boys also earned a 59-37 win over Opp. Jah Burney led PCHS with 14 points, while both Michael Walker and Markelis Hobdy earned 11 points each. Kam Christian also chipped in with 10 points in the Bulldog win.

The Pike Lib boys lost to Dale County 45-42 with Sawyer Keck scoring 13 points in the loss. The Pike Lib girls also lost 37-22 to Dale County, but rebounded to earn a 43-42 win over Emmanuel Christian.

Ariton feated Elba 67-59 with Ian Senn leading the way with 18 points. Matt McNair added 16 points and Lawson Leger chipped in with 11 points and seven assists, while Myles Tyler scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The Ariton girls fell 43-25 to Elba.

Zion Chapel boys dropped a tough loss to Luverne 41-40, while Mason Stuart scored 16 points and Slade Grantham added 15 points for the Rebels.

The Goshen boys also lost 68-45 to Brantley.
