All-Messenger Volleyball team brimming with talented athletes

The 2023 All-Messenger Volleyball Team features a number of talented athletes in the coverage area.

Headlining this year’s All-Messenger Team is Pike Liberal Arts sophomore Cara Rushing, the All-Messenger Volleyball Player of the Year. Rushing finished her senior season with an area-leading 124 kills along with 35 aces and 64 digs.

For the second consecutive year, Pike Lib head coach Lara Lea Jones is the All-Messenger Coach of the Year after guiding her Lady Patriots to a second straight Area Championship and another appearance in the AHSAA State Volleyball Tournament in the school’s second year as a part of the public school association.

Joining Rushing on the All-Messenger team from Pike Lib is junior Anna Cate Friday and senior Addie Renfore. Friday finished her season with 115 kills, 37 blocks and 16 aces, while Renfroe tallied 171 assists, 14 kills and 29 aces.

Representing Charles Henderson on the All-Messenger team is junior Jordan Owens (3.4 kills, 4.6 digs and 1.3 aces per set) and sophomore Sinai Sanchez (7.8 assists, 2.1 digs, 0.8 aces per set). Goshen is represented by senior Mikayla Mallard (171 kills, 22 blocks and three digs) and freshman Alyssa Pippins (56 aces, 241 digs, 116 kills and five assists).

Representing Ariton is junior Nya Allen with 142 kills, 15 blocks, 22 digs and three aces, while senior Madison Meeks represents Zion Chapel with 92 kills, 215 assists, 31 aces and 24 digs.

This year’s All-Messenger Honorable Mention includes Ariton’s Caitlyn Webb, Goshen’s Emily Hussey and Pike Lib’s Emma Baker.
