Troy men open conference play with win over Coastal Carolina

The Troy Trojans men’s basketball team (7-6, 1-0) picked up a 72-65 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-9, 0-1) on Dec. 30 to open up Sun Belt Conference play.

Despite falling behind by double digits early in the first half, Troy rallied to tie the score 33-33 at halftime of the road game. Troy wasted no time in the second half, jumping out to an 8-0 run and eventually outscoring Coastal 39-32 in the final half.

The win over Coastal marked not just the first conference win of the season for the Trojans but also their first road win of the 2023-2024 season. Troy shot 36.8 percent from the field in the win, while Coastal shot 46.3 percent. Meanwhile, the Trojans won the rebound battle 38-32 and scored 11 points off 10 turnovers. Troy also scored 19 second chance points off offensive rebounds.

Myles Rigsby led Troy with a career-high 20 points along with nine rebounds, three steals, one block and two assists. Christyon Eugene added 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Tayton Conerway came off the bench to score 11 points.

Troy will open the 2024 portion of the schedule at home against Old Dominion for another conference game on Jan. 4 at 6 p.m.
