The Troy Trojans women’s basketball team (2-7) picked up their second win of the year 98-78 over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (6-5) after big nights from Nia Daniel and Ja’Mia Hollings.
Troy shot 46.4 percent from the field in the win and outrebounded SFA 44-42, while forcing 27 turnovers and scoring 39 points off turnovers.
“It marks the separation between the power-five and the mid-majors. Let’s take a look at look at the lessons we’ve learned, but we didn’t need no more moral victories. We needed some games. I said we weren’t leaving without a win, and the girls got behind that. I can’t stop thinking how hard Nia Daniel played on defense. She came in as a scorer, and now she can do both. She just wants to win. They are still believing, and they have turned the corner. This team has put in the work.”
Daniel led the way with 21 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists. Ja’Mia Hollings scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Tai’Sheka Porchia scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Leilani Guion added 10 points in the win.
Felmas Koranga played more than 13 minutes in her second appearance of the season, tallying six points, four rebounds and a steal.
