Area Hoops: Zion Chapel downs Kinston, Goshen falls to Barbour County

On the same day that the Zion Chapel Rebels earned a No. 6 ranking in Class 2A, they dominated Coffee County rival Kinston by a score of 79-47 on Thursday.

Zion Chapel jumped out to a 23-12 lead in the first quarter but Kinston managed to cut he lead to 39-33 by halftime. The second half was all Rebels, though, as ZCHS held Kinston just 14 total points in the third and fourth quarters combined, while Zion Chapel scored 40 points in the half.

Senior Jacob Chestnutt drilled eight three-pointers in the win on the way to a team-high 27 points, while teammate Slade Grantham added 20 points and Mason Stuart earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Goshen Eagles fell to Barbour County 58-48 at home on Thursday. Jamauri McClure scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Eagles, while KJ Bristow and Sam Adams scored seven points each. Adams also earned seven assists in the loss,w hile Makayel McBride tallied eight rebounds and four blocks.

The Goshen Lady Eagles also lost 36-18 to Barbour County.
