The Troy Trojans (5-5) got back into the win column on Tuesday with a resounding 110-63 home win over the Southern-New Orleans (SUNO) Knights.
Troy shot 52.5 percent from the field as the Trojans rained down 14 three-pointers in the win. Troy also dominated the glass, outrebounding SUNO 53-24 and forced 17 turnovers. Troy also scored an eye-popping 50 points in the paint in the win. Troy outscored SUNO 48-37 in the first half but then ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the Knights 62-26. As a team, Troy dished out 26 assists, more than doubling its turnovers.
“I was very disappointed with our defense at halftime, offensively, we were fine,” Troy Coach Scott Cross said. “I didn’t feel like we guarded at all. Credit to them, they did hit some shots. They got to the basket and to the free-throw line. They outplayed us in the first half. The last 15 minutes our guys really turned it on. At least we ended the game the right way. We definitely sat down and played better defense (in the second half).”
Troy had a total of 12 players score in the win, while five Trojans scored in double figures. Christyon Eugene led the way with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and one block, while Randarius Jones scored a career-high 15 points with five rebounds. Aamer Muhammad added 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and one steal, while Dothan’s Thomas Dowd scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. Theo Seng also scored 10 points, grabbed eight boards and dished three assists. Both Myles Rigsby and Tayton Conerway scored nine points each and Rigsby added three steals to his stat line, while Conerway dished five assists.
Troy is back on the road next Tuesday in SEC Country as the Trojans face the Ole Miss Rebels at 6 p.m. in a game that will air on ESPN+.
