PCBOE approves travel and personnel requests

The Pike County Board of Education met Monday night and took care of new business which included approval of the Pike County Schools 2024-25 calendar and the request to replace two copiers at the Central Office. The copiers will be purchased through a lease. The board also approved the Financial Statements for November. In new business, the board:

•Approved the request for Goshen High School staff members to travel to and attend the 2024 BARR Conference, April 23-25, 2024 in Palm Springs, California. The staff members are Bennie Shellhouse, Marjorie Lane, Brandi DeSandro, LaToya Gay, Kristen Kelley and one additional staff member. Funding will be through a Chance Grant.

•Approved the request for Dr. Donnella Carter to travel to and attend the 2024 Superintendent’s Academy. December 11-12 in Tuscaloosa. Funding will be from the General Funds

•Approved the request for the stipends for the BARR coordinators at Goshen High School and Banks to be set at $1,600 for each coordinator. Funding will be through a CHANCE Grant.

•Approved the development of 3+1 Bachelor Degree Program for Pike County students in partnership with Troy University.

•Approved the development of Music Industry and Music Performance Associate Degree Academy in partnership with Troy University.

In Personnel action, the Board:

•Approved maternity leave for Rachel Grier, first grade teacher at Pike County Elementary School.

•Accepted the resignation of Kalei Faulk, special education aide at Pike County Elementary School.    

•Accepted the request to employ Angelina Harris, Child Nutrition Program worker at Goshen Elementary School, effective January 3, 2024. 

•Approved the Superintendent’s recommendation concerning a certified employee #2.

•Approved the Superintendent’s recommendation concerning a certified employee. #3

•Approved the Superintendent’s recommendation concerning a classified employee.

All new hires are contingent on certification or verified pathway to certification and background checks.
