Troy women fall to Georgia on the road

The Troy Trojans women’s basketball team (0-6) remains winless in 2023-2024 after suffering an 86-70 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on the road on Dec. 6.

Troy fell behind 19-15 in the first quarter and trailed 47-31 at halftime. Georgia expanded its lead to 67-47 going into the final period. In the fourth, Troy’s Nia Daniel exploded to score 12 points as the Trojans outscored Georgia 23-19 in the final period but it wasn’t enough.

On the night, Troy shot just 37.5 percent from the field, while Georgia shot 43.6 percent from the field. Troy is one of the top rebounding schools in the country but Georgia won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Trojans 51-40. Troy also turned the ball over 12 times.

Daniel led Troy with 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Makayia Hallmon added 18 points, two rebounds, five assists and one steal. Leilani Guion scored 10 points, as well. Georgia had a total of five players score in double digits with both Destiny Thomas and De’Mauri Flournoy scoring 16 points each.

Troy will look to bounce back and earn that first victory of the season on Dec. 9 at 3:33 p.m. at Trojan Arena against Tennessee-Martin.
