Kimani Vidal named semifinalist for Doak Walker Award

On Tuesday, Troy running back Kimani Vidal was named as one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award.

The award is presented annually to the nation’s top running back. Vidal has been one of the leading rushers in the entire country in 2023, coming into the final regular season game ranked fifth in the nation in rushing and second in the Sun Belt with 1,280 yards on the ground. He also has eight rushing touchdowns this season.

In week one, Kimani Vidal rushed for a school-record 248 yards and a few weeks later rushed for 245 yards, the second-most in school history. He also became the school’s all-time leading rusher this season and his six 100-yard rushing games this year is tied for the most in school history.

Now, Vidal is just 58 yards shy of breaking the Troy single-season rushing yardage record. Vidal has also showed off his blocking skills this season, ranking third among running backs in the country for pass blocking by Pro Football Focus. His 73 forced missed tackles also ranks second in the country.

Joining Vidal as a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award is Texas running back Jonathan Brooks, Texas Tech’s Tahj Brooks, Georgia State’s Marcus Carroll, Michigan’s Blake Corum, Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II, North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton, UCF’s RJ Harvey, Oregon State’s Damien Martinez and Missouri’s Cody Schrader.

The finalists for the Doak Walker Award will be named on Nov. 28 and the winner will be announced on Dec. 8 during ESPN’s College Football Awards.
