For the first time, the Charles Henderson Trojans are appearing in Dothan’s Turkey Classic at the Dothan Civic Center and started the tournament off with a quarterfinal victory over Barbour County on Monday.

Charles Henderson dominated Barbour County 62-28 to advance to the semifinals after forcing an eye-popping 23 steals in the win. For the first time this season, Charles Henderson had its whole team together as the Trojan football players jumped straight from the football field to basketball court after falling the playoffs on Friday night.

CHHS led 15-11 heading into the second quarter but that led swelled 31-15 at halftime. CHHS led 54-21 at the end of the third quarter and finished the game off with the 62-28 win to pick up the first win of 2023-2024.

The feisty CHHS defense allowed just nine made field goals for the entirety of the contest. Bradley Prestwood led all scorers with 15 points, while Jywon Boyd scored 14 in his basketball debut this season.

Charles Henderson will meet G.W. Long in the semifinals on Tuesday. The winner of the Turkey Classic will advance to the annual Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic in December.
