The Pike County Salvation Army’s Fall Camp Stew Sale will be from noon until 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pike County Salvation Army’s Service Center on South Brundidge Street in Troy.
Kim May, local Salvation Army director, said reservations for the army’s popular camp stew may be made by calling 808-6510 but reservations are not necessary.
“We’ve been making this camp stew by Carter Sander’s famous recipe so long that we know what our customer base is,” May said. Then, we add about 200 more quarts and we almost always have just enough.”
The Pike County Salvation Army’s camp stew is only $10 a quart and is cooked in kettles in the woodlands of Pike County.
May said she’s not going to give away the secret to the Salvation Army’s famous camp stew.
“We’ll not tell but even if we did, we would still take great pride in the camp stew we offer to the public,” she said. “We appreciate all the support of our camp stew sales over the years and invite everyone who likes mighty good camp stew to stop by the Pike County Salvation Army Service Center on Thursday.”
The camp stew will hot out of the kettle at noon and will be a great lunch or take home for supper.
“All the proceeds from the camp stew sale go to help friends and neighbors here in Pike County,” May said. “The Salvation Army is a non-profit organization. We pride ourselves in doing the most good here at home.”
