Johnson Center invites patrons to ‘mask up’

The Johnson Center for the Arts is making a fashion statement with its Mask-A-Rade Membership Celebration for 2020-2021. from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. September 24.
By order of Gov. Kay Ivey, Alabama citizens are to wear masks when in public places or in public gatherings so what better time for a Mask-A-Rade Membership Celebration said Jennifer Senn, a member of the membership committee.
“The Mask-A-Rade is going to be an fun family events,” Senn said. “We are encouraging everyone to wear a mask that fits their personality.”
Senn said the Mask-A-Rade is an opportunity for art patrons to be creative in with their mask designs or show support for their their favorite football team. Kids might come as their favorite Disney character or as their superhero.
And, there might be a prize or two awarded.
The Mask-A-Rade will be a two venue event.
“We will have food and entertainment at the Johnson Center for the Arts and at The Studio,” Senn said. “At the Johnson Center, there will be barbecue, baked beans and more with the option of dining in or taking out. The food will be served following the rules of COVID-19 at both venues.’
Kat Deal will entertain in the JCA Main Gallery.
Finger foods will be served at The Studio where Charity Bowden will be the featured entertainer.
“Everyone will be invited to visit the JCA galleries that feature the glass art of local artist Charles Adams in the upper gallery,” Seen said. “Charles won the TroyFest Best of Show Award for 2019. Huntsville artist Guadalupe Robinson is featured in the lower gallery. Both her pottery and quits are amazing. These are two “no miss’ exhibitions.
Send said the Mask-A-Rade Membership Celebration will be an opportunity to learn more about the events and opportunities offered at the Johnson Center and The Studio throughout the 2020-2021 membership year.
“Memberships begin at the individual level at $50 and the family level for $100,” Senn said. “The are several levels of sponsorships and each increasing level has more perks. We invite everyone to join us for the Mask-A-Rade on Thursday, September 24. It will be fun night all. Join us as we continue to support and promote the arts in Troy and Pike County.
