Brundidge Council opens bids for CDBG project

The Brundidge City Council met at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brundidge City Hall to canvas the city’s 2020 Municipal Election held on Tuesday, August 25 at Brundidge Station.

Linda Faust, Brundidge city clerk, said the final tally of votes dictated runoffs in the mayor’s race between incumbent mayor Isabell Boyd and Jimmy Ramage, in Council District 1 between incumbent Betty Baxter and Gerald Holland and in Council District 2 between incumbent Alexandria Griffin and Latisher Hall.

Incumbent Margaret Ross was re-elected to serve District 3 and incumbent Byron Gaynor was re-elected to serve District 4.

Marilyn Rodgers was elected to the Council 5 District seat.

The runoff elections will be held on Tuesday, October 6 at Brundidge Station between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The council reviewed the bids for the 2019 Community Development Block Grant project for water main replacement.

Willie Wright, city manager, said the bids had been tabulated and the lowest responsive, responsible bid was submitted by L&K Contracting Company of Dothan in the total amount of $204,143.

The council voted to tentatively award the bid to L&K Contracting Company subject to concurrence by the Alabama Department of Community Affairs.

The Rev. Ulysses Kincey, Jr., pastor of St. Paul AME Church in Brundidge addressed the council with concerns about the St. Paul church cemetery.

There was uncertainty about property ownership and the use of the cemetery.

Wright told Kincey that the city mowed the cemetery as a courtesy to the church membership but had no ownership of the property.

Faust suggested to Kincey that he contact the owners of local funeral homes to make sure they understand that any burials in the St. Paul AME Church Cemetery would have to be authorized by the church.

The Brundidge City Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Brundidge City Hall on North Main Street. All meetings are open to the public.
