Because COVID-19 has put a hitch in the get-along for candidates in the August 25 municipal election, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Pike County Municipal Candidate Forum on the Chamber’s youtube channel.

Dana Sanders, Pike County Chamber of Commerce president, said, because COVID-19 is limiting door-to-door campaigning, which is a hallmark of small town municipal elections, the Chamber wanted to give the candidates in the municipal election an opportunity to let their voices be heard.

“We offered the opportunity for all of candidates in the Brundidge and Troy municipal elections to participate in the Pike County Municipal Candidate Forum,” Sanders said. The municipalities of Banks and Goshen are not having municipal elections. None of the council seats in Banks were challenged. In Goshen, only one council member opted not to run for re-election and there was only one candidate for that seat.

“We offer our congratulations to the Banks and Goshen councils and our appreciation to those who accepted our invitation to participate in the Pike County Municipal Candidate Forum  and thank them for their participation,” said Sanders, who moderated the forum.

Sanders said the incumbents for three challenged seats on the Troy City Council and the challengers participated in the forum.

Candidates for the Troy Municipal Election mayoral seat are incumbent Jason A. Reeves and Tyrone Moultry. For Troy City Council, incumbent Robert Jones is being challenged by Sharon Holland for the District 1 council seat. Incumbent Stephanie Baker is being challenged by Caleb Dawson for the District 4 seat.

In the Brundidge Municipal Election, 22 candidates are vying for the six seats on the council. Six of the candidates accepted the invitation to participate in the forum

Former Brundidge mayor Jimmy Ramage and newcomers to the political area, Rodney Wilson and Mike McNally are challenging incumbent mayor Isabell Boyd.

Lynette Andrews is a candidate for the District 1 council seat and Charlie Bell and Stacy Flournoy are candidates for the District 2 seat.
