State tops 60,000 cases

Pike County reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the total number of cases to 519 since tracking began.
Alabama added 1,933 new cases overnight, bringing the state total to 60,158, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health 10 a.m. update.
The state has reported 1,200 deaths due to COVID-19, an increase of 17 overnight. Pike County has reported a total of six deaths, with no overnight increases. ADPH estimates 29,736 individuals have recovered since tracking began in March.
The new statewide face mask order takes effect at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Announced by Gov. Kay Ivey on Wednesday, the order requires masks for anyone over 6 who’s in public and within 6 feet of someone who is not a relative. The rule make exceptions for people who have certain medical conditions, are exercising or preforming certain types of jobs. It remains in place until July 31.
