Tuesday was the first day for qualifying for seats in the Pike County municipal elections. Early qualifiers were reported from Troy and Brundidge.

The number of those seeking seats in the Pike County municipal elections was brisk with eight early hopefuls qualifying in Troy and 10 in Brundidge.

In Troy, Jason Reeves qualified for re-election as mayor. Challenging  for the mayor’s position was Tyrone “Red” Moultry.

Early qualifiers for the council seats are: Robert Jones, who qualified for re-election in District 1; Sharon McSwain Holland, who qualified for the District 1 seat; Greg Meeks who qualified for re-election in District 2; Marcus Paramore, who qualified for re-election in District 3; Stephanie Baker who qualified for re-election in District 4; and Wanda Moultry, who qualified for re-election in District 5.

In Brundidge, Isabell Boyd, qualified for re-election as mayor. Challenging for the mayor’s positon are Anthony T. Foster and Mike McNally.

Betty Baxter was an early qualifier for re-election in  District 1. Challenging for the District 1 seat is Gerald Douglas Holland. Jessica Collier qualified for the District 2 seat; Margaret Ross qualified for re-election in District 3. Henry Everett qualified for the District 3 seat: Byron Gaynor qualified for re-election in District 4 and Marilyn Rodgers qualified for the District 5 seat.

Opening day brought out those who wanted to toss their hats in the ring early but it is likely that others will qualify for the seats of municipal government. Mayors and councils will be decided in August 25 elections. Runoffs, if needed, will be October 6.
