Pilot Club awards 2020 scholarship to Hughes

The Troy Pilot Club of Troy awarded the club’s 2020 Pilot Club Scholarship to Hanna Hughes of Troy. Hanna is a 2020 graduate of Charles Henderson High School.
The award was presented to Hanna on Wednesday at Troy University where she will enroll in the fall.
The Troy Pilot Club Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating Pike County senior who is planning a career in community service and will attend Troy University. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded $500 per semester.
Hanna expressed appreciation to the Troy Pilot Club and thanked the members for the confidence shown in her by awarding her the scholarship.
“My mother, Dee Hughes, was a teacher and her dedication and love of teaching was my inspiration,” Hannah said. “And, I’ve always loved children and I’ve done a lot of babysitting so teaching is the only thing that I have ever really wanted do to and I want to teach young children. This scholarship will be used to help me achieve my goal to be an elementary school teacher.”
At CHHS, Hanna devoted much of her time to her studies and to making good grades and it paid off as she was invited to join the Beta Club for honor students. Hannah also found time to play softball and be active in the Interact Club. She works at Kelly Tires.
Hanna is the daughter of the late Dee Hughes, who was the longtime softball coach at Goshen High School, and Mike Hughes. Her siblings are Grant, Haley and Holley.
Tracey Davis, Troy Pilot Club president, congratulated Hanna as the recipient of the 2020 Troy Pilot Club Scholarship.
“The Troy Pilot Club is proud to award you this scholarship. And, we know you be an outstanding teacher and be successful in all that you do,” Davis said.
“We wish you all the best throughout college and in life.”
The Troy Pilot Club’s main focus is encouraging brain safety and health and supporting those who have brain-related disorders. The club members’ Brain Minder Puppets teach children about brain safety n a fun way and also present brain-safety programs in the local schools. The Troy Pilot Club supports the community in various ways including the Miracle Field at the Troy Sportsplex and gifting residents with baskets during the holiday seasons.
