The theme for the Troy Public Library’s Summer Reading program is “Imagine Your Story” and the library staff has worked hard over the past few weeks to “imagine” a brand-new Summer Reading program that allows for having fun and staying healthy, said Shanlie Wolter, children’s librarian.

“As we continue to practice social distancing and take extra care to be safe, Troy Public Library has opted to host a Virtual Summer Reading Program during the summer of 2020,” Wolter said. “The biggest change is that we will not be meeting in groups at the library.  Each summer we read, play and have fun together and we have some very exciting virtual programs planned and, as always, Troy Public Library will be here to help kids achieve their summer reading goals”

During the library’s Summer Reading Kick Off, participants can come into the library through June 1 to register for Summer Reading and to pick up a goody-bag full of treats.  “As usual, reading logs can be turned in at the end of Summer Reading and Top Readers will be awarded some super cool prizes,’ Wolter said.

Printable Summer Reading Logs are available upon request via email, for those who cannot come into the library, but still wish to participate.

“Even though our original plans for this year’s Summer Reading Program have changed, we still hope to have an awesome summer,” Wolter said. “It’s vital that kids continue to read every summer, in order to prevent any loss of literacy when school is out, and it’s more important this summer than ever before. We at Troy Public Library are here to make sure that each child is able to enjoy and maintain their hard-earned reading skills year-round.
