The Pike County Cattlemen’s Memorial Day Blowout Steer and Heifer Show will bring kids from four states to Cattleman Park on Saturday.
The show is sponsored annually by the local Cattlemen’s association and this year promises to be one of the biggest and best, said Cattleman Heath Wesley.
“Right now, we have 90 kids and about 140 animals registered for the show,” Wesley said. “And we could have more. Check-in is from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday and some kids will register at that time.”
Wesley said entries for the Memorial Day Blowout from outside the state include Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Kentucky.
“It’s going to be a blowout show and we invite the public to come out and support these kids,” he said. “They work hard and do a great job and would appreciated a good audience.”
The showmanship portion of the “blowout” will begin at 10 a.m. in the arena with lunch to follow at Cattleman Park.
“We encourage kids who are interested in showing cows, or just think they might be, to come out, talk with some of the kids that are showing and have lunch with us,” Wesley said. “The Memorial Day Blowout is a good time to learn more about showing cows and it’s a great, fun show.”
The steer show will begin after lunch and the heifer show will follow.
“The Pike County Cattlemen appreciate the support of the local businesses that help make this show possible,” Wesley said. “We expect to have a large crowd and, of course, we will practice social distancing. We’ll be outdoors and in a large arena and we feel confident that everyone will be safe and have a good time.”
There is no admission to the Pike County Cattlemen’s Memorial Day Blowout Steer and Heifer Show.
