What better way to relieve the stress of a chaotic world than to take a breath of fresh air.
Plein Air on the Square scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday on the square in downtown Troy is a go.
The organizers of the outdoor painting event decided sunshine and fresh air would be good for the soul.
Amanda Smothers, event organizer, said guiding the decision to go ahead with Plein Air, was the fact that it will be outdoors and the painters can set up anywhere on the square.
“The square is a big place and there will be no problem keeping distance from each other,” Smothers said. “With all the concern about the coronavirus, Plein Air on the Square will be an opportunity to focus on other things and to relieve some of the stress that we all are probably feeling. What better stress reliever than a day outdoors with a brush and paint.”
Smothers said she and her daughters, Abby and Lily Kate spent Saturday En Plein Air at Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile.
‘Being out among the beautiful flowers and in the gardens was such wonderful place to paint,” Smothers said. “We enjoyed it so much. It set me on fire and I’m ready to do more.”
Artists participating in Plein Air on the Square are invited to breakfast at the Johnson Center for the Arts, beginning at 9 a.m.
“The JCA is hosting a continental breakfast for all Plein Air artists,” Smothers said. “The breakfast will be very casual. The artists can fix a plate and eat at the JCA, out on the steps or around the square. We appreciate the JCA’s support of Plein Air on the Square.”
Plein Air on the Square on Saturday is an opportunity for artists – beginners to professionals and of all ages – to enjoy a day of painting in the outdoors.
“Come, enjoy breakfast at the Johnson Center for the Arts and then experience the joy that will come with Plein Air on the Square,” Smothers said.
