The Pike County Cattlemen made the decision Monday night to cancel the Pike County Cattlemen’s Equipment Auction on April 4.

Johnny Garrett, Cattleman Park facilities director, said the decision was based on several factors.

“We are being advised not to get in crowds of more than 50 and we’ll have a thousand or more people at the equipment auction,” Garrett said. “We couldn’t postpone the auction because that would move it into the summer and the facilities are already booked up to August. So, we decided it was better to put the auction off altogether this year.”

Garrett said cancelling the annual equipment auction will not adversely affect the cattlemen’s association to a large extent.

“Of course, the equipment auction is a fundraiser for us but we can live with it being cancelled,” Garrett said. “But what I hate about having to cancel the auction is that it helps the public get rid of things they don’t need and others to get things they want and at a good price.

“But, we’ve all just got to live with things the way they are until times get better.”
