Pike County High School will celebrate the Bulldogs’ AHSAA 3A State Basketball Championship with a parade honoring the 2020 PCHS Bulldogs Boy’s Basketball Team at 5 p.m. Friday. Everyone who takes pride in what these young men have accomplished is invited to join the celebration.
Willie Wright, PCHS principal, said the parade will begin at Brundidge City Hall on North Main Street and follow a Main Street route to the PCHS gymnasium.
“Our state championship men’s basketball team, the Pride of Pike Marching Band and our cheerleaders will make up the parade,” Wright said.
Following the parade, there will be a short program honoring the state championship basketball team and the coaching staff.
“Often, after a parade honoring a championship team, a program will be held outdoors,”
Wright said. “So, weather permitting, the program will be outside the gym. The team and coaches will speak to the crowd from the steps of the gym. It’s going to be a very special celebration.”
Wright said Coach Doug Holland and his assistant coaches will have an opportunity to speak as well as the team members.
“We will also remember Reggie Edwards, a team member, who lost his life this year,” Wright said. “The team played for him throughout the year. Reggie was their guardian angel.”
A banquet is being planned to honor the 2020 State Championship Basketball Team.
“We are beginning now to raise money to purchase state championship rings for the players and coaching staff,” Wright said. “No state funds can be used for this purpose. The players and coaches earned these rings.”
Those who would like to make a donation may contact PCHS for more information.
