Hearts, hearts, hearts and more hearts.

Hearts are prevalent at both Troy Piggly Wiggly stores.

And, at first glance, the hearts might be viewed as Valentine’s decorations but they have a greater meaning than the one day set aside for love.

Traditionally, February is the month for lovers and all things heart related. February is American Heart month and is a month-longer reminder to “take care of your heart.”

For the past two weeks, the cashiers at the Troy Piggly Wiggly stores have been offering their customers the opportunity to purchase a heart.

The Piggly Wiggly stores are owned and operated by Steve and Jennifer Garrett, who are strong supporters of the Pike County Heart Association.

“At both stores, the hearts are put up so that they are visible to our customers,” Jennifer Garrett said. “Steve and I are in full support of the opportunity offere to our customers to purchase a heart and show support for the American Heart Association. This year is our seventh to support the Hearts for Heart and it has been our best.”

Garrett said hopes are that the hearts display will raise awareness about heart health and urge others to do what is import in preventing heart disease.
