Gals all around town are talking about Galentine’s Day.

And, the word around town is that gobs of gals are making plans to be in attendance at the first ever Galentine’s Day made-up holiday celebration in Troy.

Brenda Campbell, Johnson Center for the Arts director, said the JCA is hosting the inaugural Galentine’s Day celebration from 2:30 until 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 13 which is, officially or unofficially, Galentine’s Day.

Campbell said Galentine’s Day is not new but new to Troy.

“Galentine’s s Day started with the Parks and Recreation television series 10 years ago as a celebration of female friendship,” Campbell said. “And we at the Johnson Center believe female friendship needs to be celebrated and should be celebrated. So, we are inviting all gals to join us on Thursday as we celebrate friendship among us gals.”

The Galentine’s Day celebration will get off to an impressive start when a limousine rolls up to the JCA with two special guests for the occasion of the JCA’s first Galentine’s celebration.

“Gals of all ages are invited to drop by and stay as long as they would like,” Campbell said. “We will have chocolates and champagne punch at the JCA and, across the street at The Studio, the Troy University Jazz Band will be practicing so the girlfriends will be invited to walk over and enjoy the music.”

Campbell said girl friendships are very special and meaningful.

“Girl friends are those who are always there when you need them,” she said. “They are the ones who always take your phone calls, are always willing to listen, always supportive and understanding.

“Women have more close contacts than men – moms, grandmothers, aunts, nieces and girlfriends. They form the network that keeps us all going. Galentine’s Day is a day to celebrate them all.”

Wearing red to the Galentine’s Day celebration would be nice but it is not required.

““Come with friends or come and join friends. We will have a wonderful time celebrating Galentine’s Day,” Campbell said. “And, while there, don’t forget to register to win a luncheon for yourself and three girlfriends at the Johnson Center.”
