A Pike County family purchased a brand new 2020 Polaris Ranger 1000 on Jan. 24 only for it to disappear overnight.
“It has six hours on it when it was stolen,” said Sheriff Russell Thomas.
The vehicle was stolen from underneath the carport at a residence in the Henderson community during the night.
Sheriff’s deputies recovered the vehicle on Tuesday afternoon, although it looked a bit different.
“We developed information that it had been seen around the Newton and Dale County area and we worked with the Dale County Sheriff’s Office to help locate it,” Thomas said. “We knew it went from here to Dale and possibly Houston. We recovered it in Geneva County near the Florida line. The front had been covered in camouflage tape and the bed was painted in a dark color. When we found it, it had 10 hours on it. We were very fortunate to get it back this quickly.”
Thomas said no arrests have been made yet in relation to the theft, but that the department is still working leads in the case.
The vehicle is valued at $15,000 and the charge for stealing the vehicle would be first-degree theft of property.
