The Pike County Democrats will be hosting a series of “voter education” workshops this year, starting with a “legislative teach-in” this Thursday.
“Join us for a collaborative teach-in as we prepare to fight for what’s important to us in Alabama,” said Monica Riley, vice-chair of the Pike County Democrats. “This presentation will include explaining the legislative process, breaking down Alabama’s prison crisis, how activists are organizing for criminal justice reform, an overview of ACLU focus areas for the 2020 session, and how to take action and advocate for change.”
The local Democrats will be joined by the ACLU for the free workshop. The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Trojan Center Room 119 on the Troy University Campus. This will also be the location of other scheduled workshops.
Other voter education workshops on the schedule include “Road to Ready” with the Doug Jones campaign on Feb. 27, a “Medicaid expansion and tax reform” workshop with Arise Alabama on March 26, and a workshop on criminal justice reform on April 30. All workshops will be held at 6 p.m.
The Pike County Democrats will host meetings at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 15, March 7, April 4, and May 2.
The new chair of the Alabama Democratic Party will be present at the Feb. 15 meeting to give updates on the state party and Democratic candidates for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District are also expected to attend.
