She graduated from Army ROTC as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Alabama in August 1981. She has received numerous military and civic awards and decorations.”

Bingham’s recognitions include the White House Correspondents “Be Fearless” Award, the Joint Women’s Leadership in Excellence Meritorious Service Award and the Ellis Island Medal and Women in Defenses Service to the Flag Award.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Lieutenant General Gwen Bingham back home and to having her speak on this special occasion,” Solomon said. “She will also speak to the young people at 6 p.m.  Friday January 24 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The public is invited.

The Troy Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was chartered in 2013 and has been doing charitable work in Troy and Pike County since that time, Solomon said.

“Our biggest event is the annual Senior Fish Fry for senior adults in May which is Older Americans Month,” Solomon said. We also support the Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Pike and Surrounding Counties.”

But the Kappa Alpha Psi brothers wanted to do more so that established the scholarship program,

“As a small chapter, we are proud to be able to award a $500 scholarship to a senior at each of the high schools in the county, Charles Henderson, Goshen and Pike County,” Solomon said. “The scholarships are based on GPA, recommendations, references and an essay.”
