Preparations are being made once again for the annual Pike County Heart Walk celebrating funds raised for heart health research and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
A breakfast will be held at Park Memorial UMCat 8 a.m. on Saturday, Febr. 22 for heart attack and stroke survivors and their caregivers to kick off the events and the Heart Walk will be held at the Troy Recreation Center gymnasium from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.
“We encourage everyone to come out and walk,” said Tracey Davis, coordinator. “We’ll have door prizes, a light meal, a DJ and health-oriented booths downstairs.”
All funds raised by local businesses and neighborhood teams throughout the year go to benefit the American heart Association. The Heart Walk is a celebration of that fundraising and of healthy living.
Local health providers including dentistry, optometry, and general medical are being recruited now to have booths at the event, as well as other interactive and educational health booths.
T-shirts are currently being designed to raise more funds for the association and should be available in January, Davis said.
