Saving Our Youth’s Christmas Celebration will be held today at 7 p.m. at Good Times On 29 in Goshen.
Founded in 2017 by Lashonda Spikner Martin and her husband Clyde Martin III, SOY hosts various programs, scholarships, and events throughout the year to “bridge the gap between children and adults.
“We work to build healthy families, promote positive relationships and commit to save the lives of children one child at a time,” Martin said.
This year, the organization will honor Lashae Money and Nikita Edwards and their families.
“Lashae is the mother of four children and is an advocate and survivor of domestic violence,” Martin said. “She is a great mother and takes pride in taking care of her children. She is also a mezzo soprano opera singer and recording artist on the rise.
“Nikita is a student at Troy University and is the mother of 4 beautiful children. She is a widow. She lost her husband to gun Violence and is picking up the pieces and doing great things for she and her children.
“We want to help these families this holiday season. They are well-deserving. They didn’t ask us for anything. We prayed and God chose them for us. We honor them this Friday for being great mothers, community citizens and women of faith.”
In addition to honoring the families, the event will feature vendors with holiday merchandise and refreshments. Admission is free to the public.
Troy Elementary School PTO President Caleb Dawson will deliver a speech at the event.
