Ole Time Christmas is coming to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama Friday and Saturday nights and everyone is invited to come back to the way Christmas used to be.

Barbara Tatom, museum director, said Ole Time Christmas is one of the most popular events at the museum. “Those who enjoy stepping back in time and enjoying an old-fashioned Christmas will not want to miss this annual Christmas event at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama.”

Ole Time Christmas will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and will have events and activities for all ages.

Many of the activities will take place along Main Street inside the museum where Kat Deal will entertain with the carols of Christmas as well as with many other favorite songs of the season.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be on Main Street. Santa will be eager to talk with the children and hear their Christmas wishes. Mrs. Claus will be along to greet the children and she just might bring candy canes made by the elves at the North Pole for the good little boys and girls.

“The children will get to make a Christmas ornament to take home as a reminder of the fun they had at Ole Christmas,” Tatom said. “They can also participate in a Christmas scavenger hunt on Main Street and hear a Christmas story told by Father Christmas in the Little Red Schoolhouse.

Stories will also be told in the Demonstration Cabin while marshmallows are roasted over an open fire.

An added attraction for Ole Time Christmas is the Wade Hall Post Card exhibit which is “posted” in the Main Street area.

“The Pioneer Museum has a great gift shop and Ole Time Christmas will be a good time to shop for small gift items and also stocking suffers,” Tatom said. “We have a large selection of soy candles in many different scents, old Troy post cards, Ruth Overstreet’s handmade reusable bags and handwoven rugs, Shirley Blankenship’s ornaments made from Alabama-grown cotton, children’s old-time games including pickup sticks, yo-yos and spin tops. We have Eddie Bees’ 100 percent raw honey and books of all kinds. The museum is a fun shopping place and Ole Time Christmas is a great time to shop.”

Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 60-plus and military, $9 for students and children 5 and under and museum members are admitted free. For more information, call the Pioneer Museum Alabama at 566-3597.
