When it’s “chili” Christmas time, there’s no better way to spend an evening than with The Dill Pickers.

The Brundidge Historical Society will welcome The Dill Pickers to the stage of the We Piddle Around Theater tonight and it will be a night to remember, said Lawrence Bowden, BHS president.

“This will not be the first time The Dill Pickers have been in Brundidge,” Bowden said. “They performed at our Peanut Butter Festival several years ago and we are honored and excited to have them at Chili County Christmas 2019. The chili’s in the pots and we look forward to a fun-filled, musical night with The Dill Pickers.”

Bowden said The Dill Pickers have been performing together for more than 20 years and were the official band of legendary Alabama storyteller, the late Kathryn Tucker Windham.

Norton Dill said people often call them a bluegrass band but that’s not really accurate.

“The Dill Pickers are a musical entertainment group that owns bluegrass instruments,” Dill said.

The pickers play guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and bass fiddle. And, also piano, clarinet, accordion, strum sticks, autoharp, recorder, harmonica and a wide variety of percussion instruments.

During the Christmas holidays, the Dill Pickers do well known holiday tunes that have been “Pickerized,” meaning they do their own arrangements and use a lot of different combinations of instruments.

They also perform songs from their original musical/theater production, “Christmas on Sand Mountain.”

“And, if you are familiar with The Dill Pickers, you know there’s always comedy involved,” Bowden said. “We are looking forward to a Chili Country Christmas in Brundidge tonight.”
