Keep Troy Beautiful and the City of Troy have announced a new program for citizens to take ownership of keeping their streets clean and fight back against litter.
The Adopt-A-Street program will allow business, organizations or even individuals to “adopt a street” to keep clean.
“The minimum requirement is to have a cleanup planned quarterly,” said Melissa Sanders, director of Keep Troy Beautiful. “But we encourage citizens to do as much as they want and can do. This program really helps the community show pride in Troy and keeping our streets clean.”
Sanders said the primary focus of the program is litter cleanup, but that individuals, businesses and organizations can also team up on events and beautification projects as they see fit.
“By participating in this program, you can help in making our city a cleaner, more attractive, and welcoming community,” Sanders said.
The benefits of the Adopt-a-Street program include:
• Serving as an educational tool against littering and contributing to the city’s commitment to create a more livable and sustainable community.
• Helping advance economic development, tourism, and quality of life for all citizens by improving the appearance of the community.
• Increasing neighborhood pride and potentially neighborhood value.
• Providing a clean environment, giving civic pride to the community, and serving as a reminder not to litter.
“Studies show that people litter less in clean neighborhoods,” Sanders said.
