A Pike County man has been charged with distribution of a controlled substance after allegedly bringing marijuana into the Pike County Jail.

Desmond Keyon Mitchell, 19, was charged Friday and booked into the Pike County Jail on Friday on $7,500 bond.

“It was a small amount of marijuana that he tried to sneak into the jail,” said Capt. Bob Williamson.

Williamson said the charge comes due to the nature of the crime, as Mitchell allegedly attempted to furnish the drugs within the jail.

Mitchell has been released on bond.
