PET PHOTOS: Voting deadline approaches for pet photo contest

All little animals have cold noses and warm hearts.

But those little hearts could grow cold if they don’t have someone to love and care for them, said Donna Brockmann, president of the Humane Society of Pike County.

The Pike Animal Shelter is a place where unloved animals find safe refuge and someone to care for them. But if the shelter animals could talk, they would say they long for a forever home, said Donna Brockmann, president of the Humane Society of Pike County, sponsor of the 2020 Pet Photo Contest, “Here’s Looking at You” is coming down to the wire. Voting will end at 5 p.m. Sunday, September 1.

The proceeds from the contest and the sale of the 2020 Pet Photo Calendars will support the humane society’s spay/neuter program which helps reduced the number of abandoned and abused dogs and cats in Pike County.

Among the pets in the photo contest are 16 shelter animals that are depending on the caring spirit and generosity of the people of Pike County to support them.

Most of the shelter animals now have only one or two votes. Lovey leads all shelter animals with four votes.

Brockmann said hopes are that, having shelter animals in the pet photo contest, will increase awareness of the large number of homeless animals in Pike County.

“Of course, it would be a blessing if some of these sweet animals could find forever homes,” she said. “Photos of all entries in the 2020 Pet Photo Contest are in the window of Three Notch Antiques on the square in downtown Troy. We encourage everyone go by and see these adorable entries. And, if you don’t already have a pet that you want to support, please choose one and don’t forget the shelter animals.”

Votes are only one dollar and votes may be cast for one or many of the pet hopefuls. Votes may be dropped off at Guynn’s Income Tax and Bookkeeping Services, Jinright’s Hillside Antiques, The Little Framery and Three Notch Antiques.
