Extension Office to host grassroots meeting Aug. 14

The Pike County Extension Office is inviting the entire community out to the Colley Senior Complex on Wednesday, August 14 to participate in its annual grassroots meeting.

“We want to give the community an opportunity to exchange ideas with us on issues faced in the county to help us prepare for our next year of program,” said Extension Coordinator Joy Brown, who took over the role in March. “We are trying to get a cross-section of the community; we don’t want to just talk to leaders, but the residents too.”

The meeting will begin at noon at the Colley Senior Complex at 715 Elm Street. Lunch will be served, followed by a brief presentation from the Extension office and general community discussion. The meeting will conclude no later than 2 p.m., but people are welcome to leave whenever necessary.

The Extension office provides a variety of services and programs in Pike County including 4-H in all local schools, youth developments, agriculture, tax services and more. Brown said one issue the extension office has focused on recently is bringing in more people from the community to enjoy the local farmers’ markets.

And most of these programs are completely free, Brown said.

To participate in the office’s annual grassroots survey, visit ww.aces.edu/grassroots before August 21, 2019, when the survey ends.

To confirm attendance for the grassroots meeting, call the Extension office at 334-566-0985 or email cfh0008@aces.edu no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 7.
