BACK TO SCHOOL: Teachers preparing for new session

With the school year just around the corner, Pike County and Troy City schools are preparing for students to return to class.
“This is the most exciting time of year,” said Teresa Sims the principal at Troy Elementary School. “The teachers are very busy setting up and they put a lot of their own personal time, energy, and money into what they do to set these children up for success.”
Sims wants to encourage parents to start getting their children in a routine about a week before school officially starts, including going to bed early, getting up in the morning, and starting to read a little more.
Pre-K and Kindergarten classes at Troy Elementary will have a “meet the teacher” session for parents only on August 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on August 7 students can come with parents to meet their teachers and drop off school supplies.
On August 6, Troy Elementary orientation, meet the teacher, and school supplies drop off will start at 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. for first through third graders and at 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for fourth through sixth graders.
Charles Henderson Middle School will have their new student orientation for seventh graders on Thursday, August 1, at 5:30 p.m.
For Charles Henderson High School, orientation starts on Monday, July 29, for seniors at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and for juniors from 1p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Orientation on Tuesday, July 30, will be for sophomores from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and for freshman from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Troy City schools will start classes on August 8.
Pike Liberal Arts will have orientation and open house on Tuesday, August 6, for K4 through sixth graders starting at 5:30 p.m. Also on Tuesday, seventh through 12th graders will have orientation and open house starting at 7 p.m.
Students at Pike Liberal Arts will start on August 8 for a half day.
Covenant Christian School will have a parent orientation at 6 p.m. Monday, August 5, a “meet the teacher” session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, and the first day of class will start Wednesday, August 7.
Open house for New Life Christian Academy starts at 6 p.m. August 6, and the first day of school is August 8.
Pike County Elementary open house starts Monday, August 5 at 5 p.m. for Pre-K through second graders and at 5:30 p.m. for third through sixth graders
Pike County High School will have an open house on August 1 at 5 p.m.
The open house for Goshen Elementary starts on Tuesday, July 30, at 6 p.m. for Pre-K through second graders and on Thursday, August 1, at 6 p.m. for third through sixth graders.
Goshen High School will have an open house on August 5 at 5 p.m.
The open house for Banks will start on Tuesday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m. for Pre-K and Kindergarteners and at 6:30 p.m. for fourth through sixth graders. On Thursday, August 1, the open house for first through third graders starts at 5:30 p.m. and for seventh through eighth graders starting at 6:30 p.m.
Pike County Schools will start classes on August 6.
