University Avenue to undergo construction

University Avenue will be closed on the Troy University campus for the next three months as the traffic light at Veterans Memorial Drive is replaced by a roundabout.
Herb Reeves, dean of students services, said the roundabout will connect to John M. Long Avenue between parking lots constructed where Sartain Hall formerly stood.
Troy officials said the roundabout is needed to enhance traffic flow through the intersection, which will expand from three-way to four-way when the parking lot to the new Trojan Fitness Center is completed later this fall.
University Avenue will be closed at Shackelford Drive, and will detour through the Shackelford Quad. Similarly, the Pace Hall parking lot will be closed at its Veterans Memorial Drive entrance, but remain open for parking. University Avenue will be closed to traffic at George Wallace Drive.
Through traffic crossing the Troy Campus (east and west bound) should use John M. Long Avenue, Pell Avenue, or McKinley Drive to College Drive to Elm Street. The campus can be avoided altogether by using Elm Street as a connector between South Brundidge Street and George Wallace Drive, on the north side of campus, or using Pell Avenue between Park Street and George Wallace Drive.
The closure will begin Monday, July 8.
